Iglesia Ojeda, Catholic parish church for the Ojeda neighborhood, just
off Calle Ojeda
Another
of Taxco's old and very traditional neighborhoods is called Ojeda. Below
are photographs of the parish church which lies high above the zócalo.
I once went with friends to an evening celebration with a castillo at
Ojeda. We were all packed in very closely to the fireworks display and
then suddenly a fight broke out between two teenage boys. The crowd that
seemed to have not an inch of extra space flowed away from them giving
them several feet in which to work things out. They did and the crowd
flowed back into the space and the fireworks hadn't stopped for even a
minute. This was truly a testament to the Mexican's ability to manage
community life with absolutely no interference by the police or any other
agency of control.
