Iglesia Guadalupe, Catholic, Guadalupe neighborhood
The
very old neighborhood of Guadalupe lies up the mountain above the zócalo.
The church is named after the Virgin of Guadalupe, one of the most famous
religious figures in the Mexican catholic church. Each year on the 12th
of December there is a huge celebration in her honor held in Guadalupe.
There are castillos in the afternoon for children and in the evening for
families. There is special food, turkey mole, and all of the little children
are dressed up as revolutionary's from Mexico's social revolution that
began in 1910 and officially ended in 1917.
