Taxco Churches
Capilla San Nicholas, Catholic, Parque Guerrero
From its appearance, this may be one of the oldest churches in Taxco. Located on one side of Taxco's tiny park, Parque Guerrero, the church is almost hidden behind the trees as you can see in the photo to the left below. This park for some reason seems to be visited only by those coming from villages near and far, a respite before their long journeys home perhaps. Rarely will you see a Taxqueñan or foreigner enjoying its shady quiet sitting on one of its many benches.

Capilla San Nicholas is smaller than most of Taxco's other churches. Sadly, the exterior is in very poor condition. As you can see in some of the photos that follow, the church once had beautifully detailed architecture.

Upon entering the church, you will see some of the images below, one of which perhaps needs an explanation. The seventh photograph below was taken electronically on the fly without aid of a flash which is not permitted in Taxco's churches. The image that you are seeing is that of a box on the wall where there are three naked people burning in the flames of hell.

The last photograph in this series is of a woman sitting quietly in Parque Guerrero. It really is one of Taxco's lovely and still undiscovered places.
